About Cecily Kate

Cecily Kate’s passion for design started as a young child. Inspired by the formidable country estates of rural Scotland and East Anglia from where her family came, she was always aware of the grand entrance gate. Frequent family visits to Sailing Hall, the home of world renowned wine writer Hugh Johnson, were pivotal in shaping her ideas around the magical gardens that lay beyond exquisite gates. Over the years she witnessed the gardens of Sailing Hall transform under Hugh Johnson’s epic vision … secret walled gardens, japanese gardens, vegetable gardens – all were gardens with magical gates, inviting exploration and creating an air of mystery. Art classes at Sailing Hall were followed by two years living in Rome, studying history of Art and Italian and then back to London to where she studied Theater Design to great acclaim. Soon after graduating Cecily Kate was selected to join the British Design Team who won rave reveiws at the 1995 Prague Quadrennial International Stage Design Exhibition where she and the team received a specially created gold medal. Spanning a twenty year career as an award-winning stage and costume designer coupled with a parallel career as a gifted healer and Reiki Master, Cecily Kate’s ability to distill the essence of a client’s vision enables her to create gates that symbolize the soul and integrate the surrounding landscape and architecture. Her designs range from elegant minimalism to the mythically inspired. Her gates seem to come alive and dance with the changing light throughout the day. Juancarlos Fernandez of Signum Architecture describes her gates as “beautiful,” and “loves the permanent movement within the designs.”
